Frequently Asked Questions
I got an email notifications at my home email, but not my work email. My principal also didn't get the email either.
Email is not a reliable means of communication, but it is widely available. As an all-volunteer organization, we rely on email as an inexpensive way to communicate with educators. Unfortunately, the massive flood of spam (unsolicited commercial emails) causes many organizations to run very tight filters that frequently reject legitimate emails. That is likely the case here, where both you and your principal failed to get the emails we sent. We suggest that you contact your IT administrators and let them know you need to receive emails from the stedtrain.org domain. They can "white list" the organization to tell the spam filters that email from this organization is legitimate. We also have a list of contacts that should be added to the white list. Since that file contains Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that should not be shared publically, you will need a grant or proposal ID to download the file. Download STEDTRAIN Contacts Q: Can a home school program apply for a Seed Grant?
A: Yes, if the home school group or program is recognized by the state. The person recognized by the State as the functional principal must have the authority to accept and be responsible for the funds and the project - program. Q: Will STEDTRAIN consider a STEAM program?
A: Yes, you can submit a science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) proposal, but the project - program outlined in the proposal must be a STEM. We do not add to or reduce if the teacher and principal decide to make the proposal a STEAM project - program. We will only score the STEM portion. We have had several STEAM proposals in the past that were heavy on the art. They did not score well. Q: Can a new teacher be assigned to a Seed Grant?
A: Yes. The principal needs to send an email to our records administrator (ron@rhackett.net) with the new teacher's name and contact information. The email must come from the principal's official email address. That's the only way we have of authenticating the request. Q: Can a Seed Grant be transferred to another school?
A: Yes. Both the losing principal and the gaining principal must send an email to our records administrator (ron@rhackett.net) agreeing to the transfer. The email must come from the principal's official email address. That's the only way we have of authenticating the request. Q: How do I get information about submitting a Seed Grant proposal?
A: We accept Seed Grant proposals through our online system beginning on February first of each year. Proposals must be submitted before the deadline on April first of the same year. Information about submitting a proposal will be available on our website during that period. Q: How do I get on your email list for Seed Grant announcements?
A: Send an email to our records administrator (ron@rhackett.net) with your name and email address requesting to added to our email list. Q: How did I get on your email list?
A: All teachers and principals who have submitted a Seed Grant proposal since 2010 are automatically added to our email list. Q: Does STEDTRAIN send mass emails?
A: No. We will never send mass emails to everyone in any school district. STEDTRAIN sends emails regarding our program only to principals and teachers who have previously requested to be on our email list, or to those who have submitted proposals for STEDTRAIN grants since 2010. Occasionally we do send information about another STEM opportunity that we believe will be of direct interest to the teachers who have previously contacted us. Q: Do I need to ask our school's IT manager to allow STEDTRAIN emails to be passed to my principal and me?
A: Yes. If you do not do that, you will most likely not receive our emails. Q: How do I do this?
A: Ask your IT manager to place the STEDTRAIN email addresses on their "White List." Email addresses that are on the "White List" are always accepted regardless of any other factors that may appear to be spam. Q: What email addresses should I request our school's IT manager to place on their White List?
A: You can download the list of STEDTRAIN contacts in a comma-separated variable (CSV) format that can be imported into most applications, such as a white list, using the link below. Because this list contains sensitive information, a grant or proposal ID is required to access the file. Alternately, you can contact our records administrator ron@rhackett.net for assistance.
