iMAKE Science!
iMAKE Science is a project in which 3rd-5th grade students can explore Science through an in-depth look with an iPAD. Students will be able to investigate the skills and processes of science concepts through critical analysis via the internet and apps. With this knowledge students will create videobooks, podcasts, or video projects to be presented to the school through the morning show broadcasting program.

Rube Goldberg Project
A Rube Goldberg machine is an extremely complicated apparatus that performs a simple, easy task in an indirect way. Students will work in groups and will be directed to choose a task (i.e. feed the fish) to complete using a machine they design with a few materials provided to them. Students will be asked to provide additional materials to complete their project with their own imagination and ingenuity. The physical science teachers (3) at our school will all be completing this project with their students. This will be a demonstration of the students knowledge of physics concepts.

Near Space: The Next Frontier
Near Space: The Next Frontier is a project in which 5th grade students will design, construct, launch, and retrieve a near spacecraft. Students will also design a series of experiments that will be placed aboard the near spacecraft. After retrieving the craft, students will analyze data collected during the flight and present their conclusions in a PowerPoint presentation. In addition, students will create a website that allows viewers to track the progress of the Near Space Project and to observe pictures and videos from each launch attempt.

Do You See What I See? Viewing One Microscope on Ipods and Ipads
The school has ipad carts which are currently underutilized in science. A microscope exists that is handheld and portable and will transmit images to multiple ipads/ipods/iphones at one time. Teachers and students can look at fingerprints, live specimens, leaves, a tongue, skin etc and transmit all the images to ipads for all to see, capture, and use in projects.

Design and Build Electric Car for Greenpower Race in England
I have talked to Mr. Stingel and he has told me he submitted for a grant also and he said he explained what the electric car is about to you. I'm applying because what he is doing and what we are doing, while on the same car, are in very different areas. We are designing the car as far as the aerodynamics, gearing, and total physical construction of the car is concerned. We are also designing plastic parts to be used in areas of the car that we will produce in our classroom using the Dimension printing machine. Material for this machine is very expensive.

Third Rock from the Sun: Earth and its Place in Space
The purpose of this project is to engage students in active learning by promoting activities of inquiry and discovery. The grant presents, involves, and evaluates objectives based on the National Science Education Standards. The NSES emphasizes investigation of science questions using evidence and strategies for developing or revising an explanation.

Autopsy: Virtual Style
The students in my forensic science classes will use the ActivSlate hardware and real anatomy software to perform a virtual autopsy on a virtual cadaver in the classroom. The students will work in groups to complete the activity. The students will then utilize the computer lab to generate a report incorporating information and imagery obtained from the virtual autopsy.

Cry-O-Chemistry
Cry-O-Chemisty is designed as an introduction to the kinetic theory, and to demonstrate the gas laws. (Charles Law, Gay-Lussac's Law). The demonstration will be used to activate prior knowledge, and encourage students to suggest inquiry investigations that make meaning of the mathematical concepts of the gas laws.

Weather Watchers
Weather watchers is a project where small groups of students will research weather patterns, symbols and forecasts on pre-selected ipad applications. They will use the information they gather to create a graph of current weather patterns in the location of their choice and a design a forecast for the upcoming week. Groups will rotate each day so that each student is able to complete the project. This project supports our AMSTI curriculum and Alabama Course of Study First Grade #8-to recognize daily changes in the weather.

Physics - It\'s Everywhere!
Physics - It's everywhere! Each student will learn by experimentation that physics is present in everyday life. This introduction to general physics will include topics such as force, potential and kinetic energy, work, motion, heat, light, sound, and conservation of energy and renewable resources. Hands on experiments will be used to demonstrate these concepts and lab workbooks will be used to reinforce the scientific method. For example: 'Why you should wear a seat belt' is a study of Newton's laws of motion.

Smoke and Mirrors: The Illusion of the 1920s American Economy
Students engage in a hypothetical investment of 100,000 dollars in an on-line portfolio using The Stock Market Game learning economic and financial concepts one will use for the rest of one\'s lives. Additionally, students examine how the American Economy evolved and collapsed from a time of innovation to a time of devastation. Evaluating the era of inventors and industrial giants, students discover the relationship between how invention drives industry, industry drives consumerism, and reckless consumerism leads to mishap. Instruction promotes relevance to current trends in the economy.

Lincoln County High School's Falcon Engineering and Robotics Team
The robotics team is an extracurricular activity that allows students to see, learn, and work with various aspects of engineering. We learn the basics of design, fabrication, wiring, computer programming, and other related skills. The students also use concepts used in their high school courses, for example mathematics, physics, computer aided design, and engineering courses. We spend the fall semester practicing and learning to work as a team so that in the spring semester when we have our 6-week build season our team is accustomed to working together with various tools and materials.

Excitation by Titration
Excitation by Titration includes a variety of hands on, inquiry based investigations that will be conducted by Chemistry I, Honors Chemistry I, and AP Chemistry students. These activities include a Strong Acid/Strong Base Titration, a Weak Acid/Strong Base Titration, and an investigation of antacids. Each student group will conduct prelab reports, collect data, perform calculations, and report conclusions.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall is a program designed to increase cooperative learning in middle school students while using technology to show students how to communicate their scientific findings to their peers. Each group will rotate use of the iPad to record their data from the investigations that are done in class. The group using the iPad will then use the airPlay Mirror function on the iPad and Apple TV to display their data onto the class screen and share their results with the class. Use of this technology will increase the number and enthusiasm of class presentations.

Robotics
We started a robotics club at Whitesburg Elementary during the school year 2011-12. We have twelve Lego Mindstorms NXT Robotics Kits but are in need of the Lego Mindstorms Education Resource Kits to extend the functions of the robots. We are also in need of two more laptop computers to be used for programming the robots we have. In the robotics club students learn to build robots and attachments and program the robots for various tasks.

Math Facts in A Flash
This project is to purchase a computerized math program that allows students to practice basic math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It will help with a skill that many of our students are lacking which is basic fact mastery. It will time the students while doing the facts and they will not be allowed to move on until they can correctly identify the answers to basic facts in a specific time period.

Math Madness
Math Madness is a project to incorporate more hands-on manipulatives during small group instruction. Math manipulatives are a great way to introduce kindergarten students to the necessary skills needed to build a strong math foundation. Using hands-on centers enable young minds to explore a variety of math concepts. A variety of lessons will be taught, in small groups, using the math manipulatives.

Math Equals Money COUNT On It !!!!
Today teachers are expected to meet the needs of a diverse student population through teaching that is woven with technology. Each student is unique and has different styles of learning. The key to a successful learner is for teachers to engage their students in learning by providing students with differentiated instruction. Research has been proven that children learn by ways that comes natural to them. These devices will be used during center time to help acquaint students with different math concepts and reinforce new learning.

HCT Computer Electronics "Team USA" Electric Car Race in England Oct. 2012
HCT has been asked by the Greenpower Education Trust in England, a group of over 400 schools, to build/design and race in their National Final 2012 Goodwood 24+ bracket. HCT is the only school in America to receive this invitation. Because of our work on the Rocket City Space Pioneers project they felt we were capable and would be the first school in the US. After we compete they want us to promote the competition in the US and see if it will grow across the Nation and make it an international affair. The race is 14 Oct. 2012. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, There's Science in the Garden, We Know!
Seventh grade students from HCMS will team with kindergarten students from Hampton Cove Elementary School to explore science in our garden area inside our Outdoor STEM Learning Lab, behind the schools. We will work together to study outdoor vegetation, learn about composting, learn the parts of a plant and of a flower, characteristics of living things, study photosynthesis and grow vegetables to donate to the New Hope Care Center.

Creative Problem Solving 101
Students involved in Destination Imagination will work cooperatively to implement the creative problem-solving process as applied to interdisciplinary, multi-faceted challenges. CPS 101 materials will allow the teams to have access to real-world technical and practical materials that can be used for hands-on training and workshops with the students.

They must get a successful foundation of math skills to be able to succeed in college and their future jobs. These math activities are designed to promote student performance and understanding in the classroom, everyday life skills, and standardized tests.

Exploratorium! Science and Math Night
This purpose of this grant proposal is to gain funding for a science and math event at Chaffee. Exploratorium! will be the first annual science and math night at Chaffee Elementary. This program will feature hands-on science activities for all grade levels. The goal of the program is to give families an opportunity to enjoy science activities with their children and promote interest in science and math. Since scientists from the community will be demonstrating science that night, it will also serve as a career education night for Chaffee students.

Cyber Security Fundamentals
In response to the current shortage of computer security professionals and the expected growth in this job field Grissom High School decided to pilot a Cyber Security class. The value of this class to current and future students could be greatly enhanced if they had a textbook. The cous maateerials have been derived in part from Computer Security: Principles and Practice 2/E by William Stallings (published by Pearson). This book, which was published at the end of 2011, will be used for at least the next 5 years.

Math At Your Fingertips
Today's classrooms are full of diverse learners. We as teachers are always trying to find new and creative ways to reach all students. Hands-on math manipulatives are a great way to engage students in math lessons. Data has proven that hands-on activities highly increase student achievement when learning new math concepts. These tools will aid all diverse learners in learning new math skills. These math manipulatives will be used during center time to reinforce all skills being taught. Students will learn through hands-on math activities with the help of their peers.

A project that teams Math and Science applications through the use of an IPAD to special needs communities to improve knowledge of Math and Science through dexterity, graphia, and visual motor planning skills through the use of mobile technology that will cover four schools (52 students) with age ranges from 3-21 years. Create, Manipulate, and Computate with Mathematics
Manipulate to Computate with Mathematics is an effort to provide concrete experiences with math manipulatives that support the curriculum and state objectives. These manipulatives will be used for number concepts, place value, geometry, time, and measurement.

What's the Matter
This unit looks at the different states of matter in an interdisciplinary way. The students will investigate the properties of matter through the Center for Gifted Education's unit, "What's the Matter?" Students will conduct various hands on activities investigating matter and polymers. Simultaneously the students will look at poetry, and how meticulously a poet plans and crafts a poem. The students will then write poetry about the states of matter. The unit integrates the use of the scientific inquiry method and poetic writing to help students gain a deeper understanding of matter.
